The most important use of a bootable Pendrive is of course booting up the PC when it is no longer starting by itself because of any kind of virus, serious system failure, defective hard drive, or partition problems. It can be also used as a recovery system and can be used to successfully repair the computer.

Its not only limited to recovery , system failure and problems more than that you can use a bootable USB to upgrade your system for example you can upgrade your pc from windows 7 to 8 or 10.

Here are all possible uses for a bootable USB drive:

  1. Boot after a PC emergency
  2. Use a recovery system to repair your PC
  3. Store an image of the operating system
  4. Upgrade an old operating system to Windows 10
  5. “Clean” reinstallation of the operating system
  6. Use a “portal operating system” on a foreign computer

REQUIREMENTS :

-  A working pen drive at least 4 GB or greater.
-  RUFUS software.
-  Windows iso image you want to install (7 , 8 ,10)

what is rufus ?

Rufus is a utility that helps format and create bootable USB flash drives, such as USB keys/pendrives, memory sticks, etc.

It can be especially useful for cases where:

  • you need to create USB installation media from bootable ISOs (Windows, Linux, UEFI, etc.)
  • you need to work on a system that doesn't have an OS installed
  • you need to flash a BIOS or other firmware from DOS
  • you want to run a low-level utility

PROCEDURE :

Download Rufus from the link provided above install it on your device fire up the application and then insert your pen drive into your pc/laptop. Now in the device section of Rufus select the pen drive that you have inserted in your pc/laptop and make sure file system is set to NTFS. Let other options remain as default don't make any changes to them. Now click on the iso image option and locate your windows iso image wherever you have saved it on your device, click on it. At last click on the start button and wait for a few minutes for the process to end.

If you feel any problem throughout the whole process I am providing a YouTube video tutorial here:-
